Custody of the Replanted Monumental Olive Trees ( 8/8/2025 )
On Friday, July 11, the President and Manager of the Taula del Sénia Mancomunidad (Evaristo Martí and Tere Adell), the President of the Territorio Sénia Association (Jaume Antich), the President of the Montsià Regional Council (Sergio Guimerà), and representatives of the 11 municipalities in Montsià that have monumental olive trees in their area (which is all of them, except Sant Jaume d'Enveja) met at the headquarters of the Montsià Regional Council in Amposta.
The reason for the meeting was that, after having already completed two technical services for the Generalitat de Catalunya, one on criteria for measuring monumental olive trees and the other on the census of olive trees and monumental olive groves in the Montsià region (with a result of 3,509 Monumental Olive Trees and 31 Monumental Olive Groves), the Catalan government has now commissioned a technical consultancy for the Custody of Replanted Monumental Olive Trees. It states that, since Montsià is home to 85% of Catalonia's Monumental Olive Trees, infrastructure of general interest in the region is expected to require the conversion of properties currently housing these olive trees. Therefore, in accordance with the provisions of Law 6/2020 on the protection, conservation, and enhancement of monumental olive trees, the project will be able to accommodate future relocations.
For this reason, the Taula del Senia (Senia Board of Trustees) has met with the Montsià Town Councils, explaining all this and asking for their collaboration and participation.
