MEDITERRANEAN SIPAM WORKSHOP IN ALICANTE ( 4/10/2024 )

Organised by FAO (Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean, UfM), AECID (Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation) and Casa Mediterráneo, the Mediterranean Meeting Workshop on SIPAM: exchange of good practices and lessons learned was held at Casa Mediterráneo in Alicante on 2, 3 and 4 October, in which the 5 Spanish SIPAMs participated: Uva pasa de la Axarquía, Salinas de Añana, Olivos milenarios Territorio Sénia, Irrigation historical in l’Horta de Valencia and Montañas de León, in addition to the 7 from North Africa: 3 from Tunisia, 1 from Algeria and 3 from Morocco.

Tere Adell, manager of the Mancomunidad Taula del Sénia and representative of the SIPAM Olivos milenarios, has participated in 2 sessions of the Workshop, one explaining the management that is carried out there, and a second on Sustainable Tourism, describing the advances that have been made in this area during these years and the growing importance that this topic is acquiring in all the SIPAMs.

During the Workshop, other candidates have also participated, some already presented and others potential, both from Spain and from North African countries. In addition, visits have been made to the historic Palm Grove of Elche, to Vila Joiosa and to the Ricote Valley.
