THE MINISTER FOR INDUSTRY AND TOURISM JORDI HEREU VISITS ULLDECONA TO PROMOTE TOURISM OF THE MILLENARY OLIVE TREES ( 11/4/2025 )
Jordi Hereu, Minister of Industry and Tourism, came to visit the millenary olive trees of the Territori Sénia in Ulldecona, where he met with the Taula del Sénia (Mancomunitat and Association), as well as with the owners of the estate and the Town Council.
He was also joined by other mayors and councillors, owners of farms and companies that produce certified oil only from millennium olive trees and of premium quality, as part of the Milenaria olive oil guarantee brand as well as other companies dedicated to olive oil tourism.
Jordi Hereu underlined that these ancient olive trees represent a worldwide unique heritage, with some specimens that are more than 1,700 years old. The Minister pointed out that this singularity constitutes an extraordinary resource for diversifying the tourist offer, in line with the national strategy of deconcentrating destinations, diversifying proposals and de-seasonalising tourism.
‘There is something here that is not found in the rest of the world and that is unique,’ said the Minister, who stressed that the tourism of the future will increasingly be based on authentic experiences, such as those offered by the Route of the Ancient Olive Trees, which combines agricultural, historical, scenic and gastronomic heritage.
The Minister then toured the Arión Museum, with 35 ancient olive trees, the result of an agreement between the owners, the Town Council and the Mancomunidad, which allows controlled tourist visits and at the same time maintains the agricultural activity, this being the model promoted by the Ministry and for this reason it was granted a subsidy of 110,600€ to support the Territorio Sénia Ancient Olive Tree Route that will start shortly.
