The Sénia Territory and the Tramuntana Mountains united by the Ancient Olive Trees ( 18/9/2025 )

On September 18 and 19, at the Capvespre Center of the Sóller Cooperative, a workshop on knowledge transfer regarding Ancient Olive Trees in the Tramuntana Mountains was held. Led by Mª Teresa Adell (Manager of the Mancomunidad Taula del Sénia) and Jaume Antich (President of the Territorio Sénia Association), they were responsible for communicating the parameters that allow for cataloging an Ancient Olive Tree: a trunk circumference of 350 centimeters at a height of 130 centimeters from the ground, and completing the details of the situations that occur in such unique trees.

These sessions are part of the olive tree cataloging project that the Sierra de Tramuntana Consortium began in 2023 and is now awaiting the presentation of the Sierra de Tramuntana Law, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2011. The director of the Sierra de Tramuntana, Antoni Solivellas, and the manager of the Consortium, Lluís Vallcaneras, inaugurated and participated in the sessions. The event was also attended by the President of the Cooperative, Miquel Gual, the Manager of the Capvespre Center, Aina Mora, the Councilor for Agriculture of Sóller, Gabriel Munar, the President of the D.O. Olie de Mallorca, Joan Mayol, the President of the D.O. de Aceituna, Andreu Oliver, and members of the Permanent Committee and the cooperatives of Estellencs and Pollença.

For two days, technicians, members of cooperatives in the Tramuntana Mountains, and producers learned about the theory and practice of olive tree measurement, completing three field trips to various farms in the Tramuntana Mountains in Sóller, Fornalutx, Valldemossa, and Estellencs.

To conclude the conference, the President of the Consell (Consell), Llorenç Galmés, and the Mayor of Sóller, Miquel Nadal, were present to support the cataloging of the Ancient Olive Trees of the Tramuntana Mountains.
