VICENTE DEL BOSQUE PRESIDES THE CONGRESS OF MILLENARY OLIVE TREES
In 2025, the Generalitat will give aid to the owners as the Law says
Vicente del Bosque, who in 2015 was named "Ambassador of the Millenary Olive Trees of the Sénia Territory", has presided over the 12th Congress of Millenary Olive Trees that was held in the Arión Natural Museum (Ulldecona) with the attendance of 90 people from all sectors :
- owners and oil companies,
- owners and oleotourism companies,
- restaurant sector,
- town councils of the Commonwealth,
who participate in this project of conservation and enhancement of millenary olive trees, a singular heritage, living and in production, unique in the world.
The inauguration was by the Mayor of Ulldecona, the President of the Commonwealth, the Delegate of the Generalitat and the Vice President of the Provincial Council. Jaume Antich then spoke about the 16 harvests (2009-2024) in which 331,500 kg of olives have been collected, from which 50,000 litres of certified oil have been obtained, and Tere Adell presented the new Route of Millenary Olive Trees subsidised by the Ministry of Tourism. Afterwards, a tasting of oils (Farga Milenaria, Morruda and Empeltre) was carried out by the Heads of the Panels of the 3 CC.AA.
On behalf of the Department of Territory, responsible for the development of Law 6/2020 on the conservation and enhancement of monumental olive trees in Catalonia, Miquel Alonso, director of territorial services, spoke and said that they are working to approve in the first half of 2025, the census and the catalogue of monumental olive trees that are necessary to comply with article 24 (aid for all sectors) and the sufficient budget allocation in the next budgets.
